Job Description

About the Service / DepartmentThe Coves is a community based crisis alternative service, provided by Hestia on behalf of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, offering non-clinical support to individuals experiencing a crisis or mental distress. We offer urgent appointmentsto make sure each person gets dedicated time and support. We provide a welcoming, safe and supportive space as well as a hot drink and a snack, for anyone (16+ in Brent) who is assessed to be experiencing or are at risk of developing mental health distress.The Coves aim to equip people with the skills they need to reduce their immediate anxiety, formulate individual self-directed support plans and provide them with information / advice around the local services and resources that may help them moving forward.About the role

  • To welcome people to a safe space following referral from the CNWL mental health services or self-referrals/ drop in to the service, and provide appropriate emotional and sign-posting to relevant and appropriate services
  • To provide support to referred customers using the CNWL Crisis Havens to reduce their crisis by offering a range of activities and interventions within the service during opening times
  • To listen to, support and engage customers in therapeutic and practical activities, to reduce their distress and alleviate anxiety
  • To carry out brief assessments with users of the Crisis Haven and co-produce safety plans and mini wellness, recovery action plans (WRAPs) to help them to self-manage their mental health better into the future
  • To motivate customers to identify causes of crises and to prevent these issues triggering crisis in the future
  • To take an active role in supervision, reflective practice, appraisals, team meetings and other support mechanisms with the Team Manager outside of the operational hours of the service, to maintain resilience to be effective in this challenging yet highlyrewarding environment
About you
  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and / or dual diagnosis issues.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e., Care Program Approach (CPA) processes
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers
  • Working with Peer Support Workers as an integral part of the team
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to work at evenings, weekends, and bank holidays - Service opening times are: 14:00 – 22:00 Monday – Sunday including bank holidays.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
