Job Description

Medical Secretary - Private General Practice (reporting to 2 Doctors) - Central London - £38k to £41kA small friendly and professional leading UK private general practice, in central London, is looking for a new Medical Secretary. The person will provide a secretarial service with strong customer service skills, ensuring strong support and high standardsof service and accuracy. You will be joining a warm, professional and friendly team, supporting the established Doctors and loyal customers/patients, who often praise the warm and professional nature of the Doctors and staff at the practice. They work closelywith the best hospitals and consultants in London and promote the best possible working environment with a sense of family and support throughout.SALARY ETC:

  • £38k to £41k, depending on experience, + annual review and discretionary bonus
  • Initially 20 days holiday per year increasing up to 25 days for each year completed. The 8 days of national holidays are in addition to the holiday allowance.
  • Private Medical Insurance included after the 6-month probationary period + Pension
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm (42.5 hour working week)
  • Permanent, full-time

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a medical secretary in the private sector in London, preferably in general practice but will consider from other specialities.
  • At least 2 continuous years in a previous post to show the candidate has durability in a role.
  • Clean employment record without penalties or dismissals.
  • AMSPAR or Pittman preferable but not absolute.
  • Good understanding of medical terminology
  • Computer literacy and proficient with all Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and at least one of the mainstream medical software suites used in private practice.
  • Personable and warm character able to work in an open office environment with other staff.
  • Multitasking and working under pressure.
  • Good communication skills and confidence in dealing with demands and expectations of a wide variety of patients.
  • Experience in audiotyping at 65wpm. Strong attention to detail, accurate typing and proof-reading skills.
  • Lives in London and has the right to work in the UK
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
  • Liaising with patients, hospitals and consultants.
  • Arranging hospital admission for patients when requested, and arranging tests and investigations when requested
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries from patients
  • Chasing outstanding pathology and radiological results/reports
  • Accurate recording of messages, ensuring prioritisation of messages when appropriate
  • Organizing incoming doctor correspondence
  • Scanning of correspondence into patient notes
  • Typing and processing of referral letters and outgoing patient correspondence in prompt time
  • Accurate copy and audio typing speed of minimum 65wpm
  • Doctors general diary management & Participate in practice meetings
  • Reception Support, to include; Answer phone/screen calls, Book appointment bookings, Take payments etc.
  • Checking patient BACs transfers and clearing them off the system.
  • End of day banking, Debt chasing, Daily/monthly clinic quality checks
