In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high-quality financial advice to a major servicewithin the council. If you are a strategic thinker with exceptional financial acumen and a passion for public service, we want to hear from you.Job Purpose:As a Financial Management Consultant, you will be responsible for providing strategic financial guidance, procurement advice, and management accounting expertise to key stakeholders within the council. Your role will involve advising on strategic finance andplanning, managing relationships with other bodies, and ensuring sound financial practices in major contracts.Description of Duties:Collaborate with the Senior Management Team to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.Lead and manage a portfolio of services in alignment with corporate and departmental priorities.Provide leadership to achieve high performance and effective operational delivery.Work closely with Executive Directors and Directors to maintain strong working relationships with portfolio holders.Develop partnerships with external organizations and act as an ambassador for the council.Play a leading role in the construction of the councils budget and capital program.Monitor and report on the councils financial position to Senior Officers and Members.Contribute to the closure of accounts and ensure timely production of annual accounts.Support the development of business cases for both capital and revenue projects.Identify opportunities to maximize income for the council.Provide financial advice and modelling for key projects and programs.Ensure efficient financial services are provided to support corporate objectives.Lead the development of financial skills among finance and non-finance staff.Represent the Director of Financial Management in various meetings and committees.Plan the delivery of financial management, reporting, and advice to key stakeholders.Participate in contract negotiations and provide financial input.Develop a strategy to maximize efficient use of financial resources.Provide financial insights for reports to leadership and external bodies.Deliver comprehensive financial monitoring reports for effective resource planning.Ensure compliance with safeguarding, customer care, equal opportunities, and governance policies.ABOUT YOUQualifications and Skills:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Masters preferred).Professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CPA) is highly desirable.Extensive experience in financial management and strategic finance.Proven track record in advising on major contracts and procurement.Strong leadership and management skills.Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.Sound knowledge of local government finance practices (desired).Commitment to upholding ethical and legal standards.If you are ready to make a significant impact within the council and contribute to financial excellence, join us in shaping the financial future of our community.
