BAME Floating Support Worker

Job Description

About the roleTo provide support to workers from a BAME background with a remit specifically to engage with service users from BAME communities who are: Vulnerable to exploitation by gangs/drug dealers and Vulnerable to radicalisation by extremist groups with alcohol/substancemisuse issuesTo provide intensive support to service users at all stages of the pathway. Interventions would include:

  • Liaison/advocacy with police, housing and other relevant services re exploitation by gangs/drug dealers
  • Support for vulnerable service users to avoid radicalisation by extremist groups by sharing cultural experience and providing positive role modelling and mentorship from workers from the BAME community
About you
  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and / or dual diagnosis issues
  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e. Care Program Approach (CPA) processes
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work with statutory services i.e. NHS at the front line.
  • Working with Peer Support Workers as an integral part of the team.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues
  • Good IT skills that includes a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook and the internet
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, able to produce clear written correspondence in hard copy or email
  • Ability to complete and record basic financial transactions i.e.; managing petty cash
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
