Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) – Basildon, Braintree & MaldonIn line with the government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the new Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) roles in NELFT are an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people. These roles are funded by the Department of Health & Social Care and are all situated with NELFT in mid and South Essex. There are three new teams that will be based in Basildon, Braintree and Maldon. See the government Green Paper - Green Paper for Transforming children and young people’s mental health.Successful candidates will be offered a post-graduate educational programme specifically for the EMHP role and delivered by the University of Reading. The roles are funded at NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) bottom of Band 4, gaining credits towards a diploma level qualification, plus guaranteed employment on completion of training, with a starting salary at the bottom of the NHS AfC Band 5 scale with NELFT in Essex. To enable this, all applicants must demonstrate in their application the ability to work at degree level and have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. It is also essential that applicants have relative experience of working with children and young people, and an understanding of the educational system in England is highly desirable. The training programme for these posts starts in January 2021. It is 12 months in duration and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning across educational settings, such as primary and secondary schools. This training will occur in various locations across Basildon, Braintree and Maldon, with Trainee EMHPs based in one of these three teams.Delivery of the university programme will be provided through a combination of taught days, experience gained in education wellbeing and mainstream mental health services, and independent self-guided study days. The university programme will be delivered both remotely and at an outreach location in Hatfield by the University of Reading. The training course is divided into modules, developing skills and knowledge in areas such as:
