Job Description

The Strategic Lead Auditor will support the Strategic Audit Manager to deliver an effective and high quality internal audit service within the Council and to external clients. Delivering complex audit assignments and providing assignment management to the Internal Audit Team, whilst ensuring the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards are complied with.The Strategic Lead Auditor will provide expert professional advice and support on the management of the internal control environment to key stakeholders, including Senior Leaders, demonstrating a deep understanding of both organisational assurance and business needs.The Strategic Lead Auditor will be CMIIA or CCAB qualified (or equivalent), with substantial internal audit experience within a complex multi-functional organisation, preferably local government.

  • Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelors degree) and CMIIA or CCAB (or equivalent) qualified, with substantial internal audit experience within a complex multi-functional organisation.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development through the appropriate professional body and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
  • Evidence of significant achievement in an internal audit role, including the innovative use of audit techniques to assist in the delivery of business objectives.
  • Excellent assignment management and coaching skills, creating a high performance culture, developing specialist skills and expertise (including CAATs and Data Analytics) to achieve strategic objectives and drive efficiency .
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively negotiate and persuade and a proven track record of delivering difficult messages to senior leaders.
  • Inspirational behavioural skills with an ability to build strong relationships and partnerships which encourage collaboration and engender delivery.
