Job Description

Senior Platform & Infrastructure EngineerPermanent, Full TimeUp to £46,359 per annumLocation: Chelmsford / remote*Closing Date: 12th September 2021*In line with Essex County Councils Ways of Working, this role has been deemed as an Anywhere Worker position. This means you are able to work remotely for the majority of the time, with occasional trips to the office based on business need. Any journeysto the office would be at your own expense. More specific details about this can be discussed at the interview stage should you be invited to interview.About the role Technology Services (TS) deliver a wide range of business applications, platforms and infrastructure that are essential to the provision of services throughout the council. The Platform & Infrastructure Team are responsible for implementation and ongoingsupport of the on premises & cloud services.We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to design, support and implement network and application infrastructure across both our on-premises & cloud platforms.As well as taking the lead on the implementation of new services you will be a key part of our migration of on-premise applications and platforms to our Azure infrastructure.Accountabilities

  • Manage a range of tasks, which could be large scale, enterprise deployments lasting several months, to smaller requirements with short timescales.
  • Work with other internal and external teams.
  • Provide technical advice, assurance, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Have a flexible attitude to working hours, depending on the requirements for any specific day
  • Assist in the creation of technical documentation such as low-level designs and knowledge base articles
  • Use your skills, knowledge, and experience to support and mentor your colleagues

  • LAN, WAN & security hardware
  • Azure Solution Deployment - Networking (VNET, NSG, Hub and Spoke, Express Route, VPN, UDR)
  • SDWAN, MPLS, Express Route
  • Palo Alto Firewalls and Global Protect
  • Aruba WiFi
  • Windows Virtual Desktop
Essential- Understanding of Network Protocols: Quality of Service (QoS), HSRP, GRE, IPSEC, OSPF and BGP- Experienced supporting large LAN / WAN / Hybrid Network environments- Experienced delivering complex projects covering multiple technologies- Experienced delivering remote desktop solutions.Desirable- Azure Solution Deployment - Security (NSG, Firewalls)- Experience working with multiple 3rd party providers and clientsWhy Essex Essex County Council has a location to be proud of.
