Job Description

As a Senior Buyer, your role is to lead the department, providing the business with excellent procurement support at a strategic and tactical level, driving out cost where possible without compromising quality considerations and timescales.The Senior Buyer is to ensure the continuous improvement and effective implementation of procurement strategies, processes and procedures. Best procurement practice, controlling risk and maximising value.Client DetailsMy client is a market leader in subsea cable installation and maintenance solutions to the telecoms and oil & gas/ energy sectors based in Chelmsford. They are recognised as a high quality, strategic partner, with a successful track record across the oil & energy industry.My client has developed a core base of knowledge, skills, technology, equipment and assets which provide the capabilities to plan, install, bury, store, test, find, recover and maintain subsea fibre optic cables.My client would have one of the worlds largest independent marine contracting fleet, including three specialist cable installation and repair vessels, and four servicing maintenance zones.DescriptionThe Key responsibilities of a Senior Buyer is:

  • The key purpose of this role is to execute the Procurement Strategy with limited supervision and in alignment to the Groups business unit strategies.
  • Assure compliance with and actively enforce procurement policies to meet or exceed business targets and customer needs.
  • Identify, raise and drive initiatives for simplification to produce a leaner, more efficient procurement process and supply chain.
  • Execute RFQs and coordinate supplier selection decisions based on cost, capability, quality, on-time delivery and effective cash management to meet business needs.
  • Support the procurement team drafting contracts and with complex negotiations.
  • Analyse bids at tender and contract award stage using a variety of methods (inclusive of should cost, detailed price break down, different contracting methods) to ensure that the best price and delivery is being achieved.
  • Identifying, managing and developing the relationship and performance of suppliers whether in support of complex marine related projects and product lines or shore based facilities and indirect expenditure.
  • Establish auditable and transparent purchasing records/documentation; to include tendering, contracts, purchase orders, supplier selection and performance reviews.
  • Work on cost down initiatives, source and on board new suppliers and proactively benchmark against alternative suppliers
  • Day to day procurement activities as required for allocated categories.
  • Any other appropriate tasks that the company requires.

  • Degree qualified with a minimum of 10 years Procurement experience.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Good working knowledge of Contractual terms and conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate deliverables and achievements as a result of working with suppliers and implementing strategies.
  • Extensive experience of delivering complex projects on time and under budget.
  • Proven experience of supplier selection, management and development.
  • Ability to manage demanding workload with multiple conflicting and changeable priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to influence at all levels within the organisation.
  • Ability to travel, both nationally and internationally as required.
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft applications: particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • A dynamic individual, being a good team player that is flexible and can function well under pressure.
  • Ideal
  • At least 3 years experience in a procurement role which involves strategic procurement.
  • Experience of Oil and Gas industry.
  • Experience of Offshore Renewables industry.
  • Formal qualification in MCIPS advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience in project procurement on an international basis.
