Job Description

This post is a full-time post 52 weeks a year, however term time only working 43 weeks a year is also an option with a pro rata salary of £46,481 per annum.A Job Share will also be considered.(Please note there is an opportunity for an additional Market Supplement of up to £15,150 to be paid in addition to the advertised salary for professionals who have experience of being part of Headship Teams including Headteachers Deputy and, AssistantHeadteachers.)This is a fantastic opportunity for teachers who are looking to further develop in a leadership role, or someone already in a leadership role within a school who is looking to share their extensive knowledge to make a positive impact on the achievementsof Essex County Councils Children in Care and Previously Looked After Children.Influencing and challenging school leaders and providing subject matter expertise, our Advisors ensure that Children in Care (CiC) and Previously Looked after Children have access to the best educational provision possible, accelerating their progress andattainment thus leading to enhanced life chances.Delivering high quality training and support for Carers and Designated Teachers in schools, you will ensure statutory duties and best practice standards are met. This role will focus on progress; needs identification, attendance, carefully targeted interventionand enrichment provision, which will meet academic, social and emotional needs. You will provide support to schools to develop strategies and plans to raise the attainment of Children in Care and Previously Looked after Children.The role requires someone with qualified teacher status, extensive teaching experience in at least 2 key stages ranging from early years to key stage 2 for primary and key stages 3 and 4 for secondary and experience within a school leadership role. You willhave a strong understanding of current theory and research relating to the education for children in care, that informs effective practice and the ability to positively challenge school practice where it falls short.Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for delivering the education vision, with particular focus on the political agenda and priorities and wider council objectives for our looked after children and raising their attainment.
  • Leading and Developing practice in key educational advances, sharing this best practice with schools to influence school performance against Ofsted and DFe requirements, including the raising of attainment of CiC.
  • Responsible for ensuring the practice and resources are meeting the needs of individuals, to raise attainment within both mainstream and SEND services, through a deep understanding of challenging and complex educational needs of CiC.
  • Effective utilisation of digital technologies, data and innovation across the function to ensure that resources are deployed appropriately for CiC.
  • Leading the way in Equality & Diversity within schools, ensuring that equal opportunity is given to all children, enabling them to achieve their potential.
Knowledge, skills and experience
  • Possesses Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has leadership experience within a school setting.
  • Experience of teaching at least 2 key stages either in Primary or Secondary School.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of current theory and research relating to the education for children in care and previously looked after, that informs effective practice.
  • Extensive experience of acting as an advocate and champion for children with the ability to positively challenge school practice where it falls short.
