Job Description

Were immensely proud of our flexible working options.NCS is an exciting government-backed national programme that brings together young people from diverse backgrounds, providing them with amazing skills for the future, a chance to make a difference in the world and an awesome summer!Essex County Council is currently recruiting Assistant Team Leaders (pay rate £8.92 per hour) to deliver Summer 2020 National Citizen Service (NCS) to young people from across Essex.All 16 and 17 year-olds across England, Wales and Northern Ireland are eligible to take part and Essex County Council Youth Service deliver the programme to young people across Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Maldon, Colchester, Tendring & Uttlesford.The RoleNCS is an intensive programme which helps young people bond as a team and learn new things, empowering them to achieve things together that wouldnt have been possible alone. The programme is divided into three stages;PHASE 1 - BE EPICDuring the first phase of NCS, teams will camp overnight at Beaudesert residential centre in Staffordshire for four nights and five days. This residential is all about young people building confidence, getting to know their team and challenging themselves. The week will be jam packed with activities like raft building, high ropes or archery.Staff will support young people to overcome their fears to take part in various outdoor activities and build positive relationship with each other.PHASE 2 - LIVE LIFEDuring phase 2 teams will stay at Essex University in student accommodation. This University style residential helps young people become more independent, learn and enhance skills to become more employable. In teams theyll learn about social and community issues and be challenged in lots of different and exciting ways to prepare themselves for adulthood.Staff will support and deliver sessions enabling participants to learn new skills, prepare them for adult life and explore their communities whilst gaining independence.PHASE 3 - DO GOODUsing their newly-acquired skills, teams design and deliver a social action project in their local area using one of our youth centres as their base for the final one or two weeks.Staff will facilitate teams delivering their social action project within their community.Please here for more information.Ideally you will be qualified at Level 2 or above in a JNC recognised Youth Work Qualification, or have experience of working with young people, which may be in a voluntary role, or experience of working on or taking part in NCS previously.Please note that Essex County Council has determined that the off-payroll working rules will apply to this assignment and where a worker elects to provide their services through an intermediary (such as a personal services company) then income tax and primary national insurance contributions will be deducted at source from any payments made to the intermediary.Essex County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity is key to our success.
