This is an opportunity to secure a permanent role in our well-established design team at a fascinating time, when the UK electricity sector is undergoing a transformation that will help facilitate a lower carbon economy.Although WPD is large, having over 6,500 permanent staff and over 7.6 million customers, we are confident the successful candidate will find our dynamic approach refreshing.Many of the schemes within our design portfolio are being delivered as part of WPDs regulatory business plan. This determines our base workload up to 2023. Team-wide, our portfolio comprises in excess of 500 active design commissions at any time ranging in capital value up to £10m. As a business, we are in the relatively unique position of acting as project funder, designer, constructor and long-term asset owner. Job Description Western Power Distribution prides itself on maintaining a strong core of internal engineering expertise. In the area of substation design, we have an established team comprising of 75 design staff, primarily based at offices in Castle Donington, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. This team prepares electrical protection and control, mechanical and physical designs for substations energised up to 132kV. The team develops schemes from a high-level engineering brief into a fully specified build package. Main Responsibilities We are seeking to recruit a strong team player and who can multitaske to join us in the role of Substation Design Engineer.
