Job Description

Senior Solutions ArchitectCardiff Permanent £45,753 - £51,668Job Summary/Job Purpose:*Responsible for all aspects of provision of the specialist services for which the post holder is the Solution Architect*Become the technical expert in specified large scale national application areas*Develop the application strategy for defined large scale national application areas*Develop and maintain application roadmaps for large scale national applications*Contribute to the development of the overall National Applications Strategy*Work with the Service, clinical team to understand clinical/service strategy and information requirements for the specified national application(s)*Develop and maintain a model of the solution architecture for the specified national application(s)*Lead the application design for the specified application(s) considering functionality, data, security, integration, performance, capacity and scalability*Describe the major integration requirements and architect and design messaging solutions*Support the selection and management of 3rd party suppliers applications from a solution architecture perspective*Work with project managers and others to develop project and resource plans for development and implementation*Ensure that the solution architecture is aligned with the enterprise architecture standards and processes*Contribute to the design of the service management and support model for national application areas*Train Informatics, 3rd party and other staff in methodologies, techniques tools and the application(s) solution architecture*Provide professional and technical leadership to relevant application specialists*Provide coaching support for the use of new methodologies and architecturesDUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:*To advise and influence in Wales on product areas for which the post holder is responsible through networking and presentations, some to large groups of senior staff, many of whom may be either unsure of the highly complex issues involved and / or sceptical or antagonistic.*Develop, maintain and initiate relationships with users and significant key stakeholders (Consultants, Health Board and Health Board Informatics, Finance, Strategists (Welsh Government).*Where appropriate, supervise Local Health Board based implementation plans drawn up by the Implementation Manager.*Maintain high level of knowledge of new technologies, tools and architecture understanding the potential benefits they may have in systems development and the way those systems impinge upon patient care.*Define and Manage, for Major new systems and their Deployment, complex Programmes for Implementation, extending over several years, co-ordinating many associated local Trust based plans and ensuring, against a backdrop of financial and organisational uncertainties, that Trusts are in a sufficient state of readiness to accept new and technically advanced systems.*Create and manage major application architecture environments for projects, extending over several years in a climate of rapidly changing technology and stakeholder requirements.*Lead major National application design and architecture for projects using new information technologies, resolving as required any problems resulting from a situation where there are no precedents. These problems may be technical or organisational, in that business processes are affected and therefore stakeholder consent is involved.*In conjunction with Application Managers, establish longer term development strategy and short / medium term priorities, through a thorough understanding of the business processes of stakeholders and gaining their consensus.*Ensuring that procedures developed are implemented and used effectively by staff, users and stakeholders *Contribute to project resource and financial planning.*Contributes to budget setting.*Line management responsibility for Solution Architects.*Working with the Software Development and Software Support Managers to contribute to the professional development of the relevant staff.PERSON SPECIFICATION*Masters attained in a management and / or IM&T subject, or equivalent skills and experience.*In depth knowledge of current IT development tools, paradigms, and methodologies (RAD, XTREME programming; relational database design; SOA).*In depth knowledge of Service Provision standards and their application (ITIL particularly).*Comprehensive understanding of the use of modern Information Technologies and how they contribute to improved systems, ICPs, and services to patients.*In depth understanding of the business processes for product(s) for which the post holder is responsible.*General legislation relating to the provision of IT services, and any specific legislation relating to product(s) for which the post holder is responsible (e.g. Adoption Legislation).DESIREABLE *PRINCE2 Project Management Accreditation or equivalent.*Solution Architecture methodologies.*Java.*SOAP.*XML.*SQL Servicer DBA.Experience*Significant experience working in Information and IT.*Proven record of management of successful and substantial software development.*Understanding of Clinical / Administrative Information and approaches required to design and implementation in this environment.Abilities *Problem solving skills.*Principles of Software Engineering.*Design of Windows applications.*.Net environment - VB, C#, ADO.Net, ASP.Net, OOD, UML, SQL.*Relational database design.*Organisational development and change management skills.*Good communication and presentation skills.*Skills in leadership and managing teams.*Systems analysis and design.*Interaction design (how users understand and use systems).Certes Computing (and all of its subsidiary companies) is committed to promoting equality and diversity in its business operations.
