Job Description

IQE has been in business for over 30 years and is a recognised global leader in the semiconductor wafer products industry. Our products are used by major global chip companies to produce the high-performance components that enable a wide range of high-tech applications. We are doing leading edge science and the team is passionate about it.Due to our continued expansion in South Wales we are currently recruiting for several shift managers who will be based at our Tredegar/Imperial Park site near Newport in Gwent. As a current shift manager or equivalent you will responsible for all shifted teams based at IQE Newport and Cardiff sites, ensuring the planning, co-ordination and execution of the site’s reactor operation, measurement, equipment and support activities.Key Responsibilities:

  • As a key player in the sites management team you will ensure production operations are compliant with all Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality standards and legislation;
  • You will oversee and facilitate all cleanroom and reactor production activity to ensure targets for throughput and wafer output are achieved;
  • Manage and maintain a high level of continuous improvement work that includes application of Lean manufacturing principles such as SMED and value stream mapping;
  • Prioritise, co-ordinate and monitor all characterisation and equipment tasks;
  • Create & Drive continuous improvement activities in line with longer term operations plans for improved efficiency and productivity;
  • Manage planned production targets for each reactor to site wide functional teams
  • Performance manage all Operations employees to agreed standards through performance appraisals and development plans.
  • Coach and improve the teams manufacturing skills and competencies in line with production requirements;
  • Generate appropriate reports on key metrics and overall manufacturing performance and report as required f or the general manager and relevant directors.
  • Shift Manager key competencies:
  • A recognised qualification in management or a proven track record of experience within a managerial position in either an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Qualification in a scientific, HSE or engineering discipline and /or extensive experience in a similar role.
  • Shift Manager personal competencies:
  • Interpersonal awareness - ability to work closely and communicate with all levels of operational, management and engineering employees. Ideally you will be an effective and confident team player.
  • Process – A very good understanding of the CVD process, characterisation & hardware capabilities, processes & procedures.
  • Data Management – Problem solving and basic statistical process and data analysis. Must be able to prioritise and work well and make decisions under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Product knowledge – possesses a good commercial awareness and understanding of excellent customer service requirements.
  • Personal organisation - Good organisational and planning skills with a desire to continuously improve business performance
  • People engagement - Able to manage and facilitate change by encouraging engagement and participation from team members. Leading a pipeline of improvement initiatives.
