Job Description

Senior Software Developer (Demographics)Salary: £31,365 - £37,890Hours: 37.5hrs per week Tenure:PermanentOverview Are you interested in developing and modernising technical solutions to deliver the best possible systems to manage Demographic services Demographic data is at the heart of all software applications used, we are responsible for maintaining the timely delivery of accurate and up to date information for the core Welsh Primary and Secondary care IT systems.Excellent opportunities are now available for you to join the team and help us transform health and care through digital innovation. This will be an exciting time as we embark on the development and implementation of several new projects such as the replacement service and Vaccination Programme.We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals that care about and are committed to delivering the technical solutions for staff and patients in Wales. This role will be key to providing design, development and support for the services we offer in the Demographics arena.What youll be doingThe Demographic team manage a number of nationwide services, these include the Welsh Demographic Service, Mater Patient Index, Birth Notification Service, Formal Death Service and Welsh Address Matching service. These services are all underpinned by SQL Server databases.The desire to make information available where and when required, and across Health Board boundaries, has led to the development of large central databases holding, demographic, built around Microsofts SQL Server technology. These databases (some of the largest in Wales) must meet the challenges of high performance, high availability, resilience, security, and deliver sub-second retrieval of information for use by clinicians.Working as part of wider well-structured team of developers and support staff, you will work alongside our Senior Product Specialist to understand the business processes. With your excellent skills you will assist in the design, build and support of our existing and future software Products.You will have the opportunity to develop and broaden your skills and extol the principles of good software design.What we are looking forWe are recruiting a talented and highly self-motivated SQL developer to work in our multi-disciplinary Demographics team. You will be writing SQL queries of various complexity to create stored procedures, functions and views. You will be optimizing and tuning existing queries to improve performance using specialist tools. You will provide third line support to our existing services and maintain and update accompanying documentation.What skills do you need*Writing complex data manipulation statements using T-SQL as stored procedures and functions. *Familiarity and experience with SQL Server Management Studio 2008 - 2019 *Creating, and using, Microsoft SQL Integration Services packages 2008+. *Normalisation techniques and ER-diagramming to design and create scalable, high-performance databases *Microsoft Reporting Services.What else is advantageous (However, not essential!)*Agile methodologies such as SCRUM *XML - particularly the use of with SQL Server *Experience with HL7 v 2.x and FHIR messaging standards *Redgate SQL developer tools *Requirements analysis*TSQLT - Unit Testing SQL Procedures*Unix/PowerShell Scripting *Knowledge of High Availability solutions, such as Mirroring, Replication, Clustering, and Always On (Availability Groups) Why join us*As a commitment to you, we offer mentoring and coaching.
