Role: Senior Software Developer - Software Development DepartmentSalary: £31,365 to £37,890Hours: 37.5hrs per weekPermanentBase:Ty Glan-yr-Afon, CardiffThe Informatics Service is the national strategic IM&T organisation responsible for the design, development, delivery and service management of ICT systems for the business. We play a key role in the delivery of safe, effective healthcare for patients across the whole of Wales. This means ensuring that whilst IT systems store information securely, they also allow the relevant information to be available to the right staff, in the right place, at the right time across the business to support patient care.NWIS have embarked on a number of new development projects and these, together with our existing development portfolio, mean we are looking for software developers to help build key clinical information systems across the business.What you will be doingYou will play a key role working alongside experienced software professionals in a multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of new products and enhancements to existing systems which include Web, Windows and Mobile based applications.Working with staff at all levels in helping to deliver solutions you will play a part in helping us deliver our strategic direction by placing quality, safety and innovation at the center of the services we provide and participating in an exciting programme of work.Working as part of an agile development team you will engage with stakeholders, business analysts and solutions architects to design and write high quality software using:*Windows Forms, ASP.NET Web forms / MVC, .NET Core or Xamarin*Relational databases [Oracle or SQL Server]*ADO.Net or Entity Framework and LINQ*Visual Studio and Team Foundation ServerWhat we are looking forWe are looking for highly motivated developers who can demonstrate experience writing enterprise class applications [preferably using C#] along with successful delivery into a live environment. A thorough understanding of Object Oriented Programming and the principles of good software design is essential.The right candidate will have proven Web or Windows forms development skills using agile development methodologies such as Scrum. Above all we are looking for developers who can work as a team, delivering new functionality to help Clinicians and business users solve real world problems.Candidates should be able to work well with colleagues, mentor and guide junior staff members and not be afraid to suggest and introduce novel ideas to help continually improve the way we work. You will also have the ability to communicate technical, complex ideas in non-technical terms.What specific skills do you needWe are looking for candidates who can demonstrate proven experience and skills in the following areas:*Excellent understanding of C#, OOP and software design patterns*Fluent with LINQ and ORMs such as Entity Framework or Dapper*Good working knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Enterprise RDBMS*Experience of mentoring and coaching junior development staff*Familiarity in any of the following areas will also be advantageous:*.NET Framework and .NET Core*Web services and RESTful services*JavaScript and JQuery*Xamarin / iOS / Android development*Unit testing frameworks such as MSTest or Nunit*Inversion of Control containers (such as Unity or Castle Windsor)*Agile development methodologies such as Scrum*Understanding and implementing SOLID principles*Above all, you want to build good software systems that deliver better care to those who need it!The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
