Job Description

Senior Process Safety EngineerLocation: Any one of the UK offices (Cardiff, Carlisle, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dundee, Glasgow, Inverness, Leicester, or Liverpool). Home working is also offered if this is preferred. Salary: Up to £65,000, depending on experienceHours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per weekOverview:Hardman Grey Recruitment is currently seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer on behalf of our client. The successful Senior Process Safety Engineer candidate will work as a member of the process safety team within the wider safety group and be involved in all aspects of professional input to process safety consultancy projects. Tasks will include the deliveryof high quality technical project work within time and set budgets. Wider knowledge of environmental engineering and occupational health and safety principles would be beneficial but not essential. The successful candidate will work within a team and contributetowards client satisfaction, company performance and sales targets. Some travel will be required (company pool cars are available). Occasional air travel will also be required. Ideally the candidate will have a background in one or more of the following areas, preferably in a consultancy role:

  • Applying process safety principles within the chemical, industrial or high hazard environments.
  • Coordination and leadership of DSEAR/ATEX hazardous area classification and risk assessments.
  • Experience in COMAH legislation and associated compliance requirements. Prior experience of COMAH safety reports, hazardous substance consent applications, major accident prevention policies and ALARP justifications would be advantageous.
  • Coordination and leadership of technical process safety studies including HAZOP and HAZID studies.
  • A broad understanding of current UK health, safety and environmental legislation. Prior experience of legislative compliance auditing and reporting would be advantageous.
  • Experience of functional safety studies (e.g. LOPA, SIL studies) to include working knowledge of BS EN 61511 and/or quantitative risk assessment (e.g. occupied building risk assessment).
  • Mentoring of less experienced colleagues.
Qualifications:The Senior Process Safety Engineer candidate will have an honours degree or Masters degree in chemical or mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Applicants with post-graduate MSc in safety & risk management or Safety, Risk & Reliability Engineering will alsobe considered. Professional chartership(s) would be advantageous. The candidate will also have a full and clean UK drivers licence. A valid passport and ID is also required for air travel. Personal attributes will include:
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to manage clients and projects.
  • Strong report writing skills and the ability to convey complex. information in concise technical reports/ deliverables.
  • Self-motivation and high levels of initiative.
  • Strong project management, client interfacing and business development skills.
