REED Scientific have an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist. As a multi-disciplinary Biomedical Scientist you will be responsible for the delegated tasks for the delivery of a fit for purpose medical laboratory service analysers and reporting on clinical samples.PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIESSpecimens- To sort, identify and record receipt of specimens with appropriate input of patient data into laboratory information system.- To identify, any specimens and/or requests which may cause problems (e.g. health & safety, identification, sample quality and/or requesting inappropriate or special tests) and to refer to senior staff if necessary.- To ensure all specimens (including referred specimens) are adequately documented and processed.- To ensure that all clinical material is stored according to departmental policies and in an appropriate manner.- To ensure all clinical material is disposed of according to departmental policies.- To work to specified standards as laid down by professional bodies including Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), Health professions Council (HPC) and ISO 17025 / 15189.- To identify priority requests and process them accordingly.- To professionally deal with enquiries regarding specimens & results from patients, doctors and other service users.Tests and Skills- To perform and interpret the results of detailed diagnostic tests on patients, samples or quality control material in accordance with any relevant Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) and maintain adequate records of tests performed.- To process, refer or prepare for safe storage a variety of biological specimens on a daily basis that may contain high-risk organisms and to handle hazardous chemicals and reagents appropriately, on a daily basis according to COSHH regulations.- To prepare reagents in accordance with COSHH and SOPs and document accordingly.- To undertake a wide variety of both automated and non-automated, complex operations.- To set up, maintain and check equipment for correct operation.- To maintain appropriate documentary records for equipment and consumables including service records.- To monitor stock levels and report deficiencies to appropriate senior staff.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE- HCPC Registered.- BSc (Hons) Biomedical degree or equivalent and HPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist- Progress towards completion of an IBMS Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) and participation in CPD activities.- Working knowledge of Biomedical techniques and practices.- Good degree of accuracy, numeracy & interpretive skills.- Knowledge of computer applications and LIMS including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Statistical Packages.- Good problem solving skills.- A good understanding of basic theoretical and practical Biomedical Sciences.- Post accreditation experience.- Good problem solving skills.- A good understanding of basic theoretical and practical Biomedical Sciences.- Experience of working in a Biomedical laboratory.- Experience of IT applications including LIMS systems, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Statistical packages.- Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory and user organisations.- Ability to communicate technical information accurately verbally, written and electronically.
