Job Description

Our prestigious and established client on the outskirts of Cardiff are looking to recruit a Senior Laboratory Analyst to join their busy team.Our client work within a niche sector and have a reputation of excellence within their field, and offer an exciting and rewarding working environment, along with a collaborative and supportive company culture.We are looking for an experienced candidate, with a minimum of 3 years experience as an analyst in a microbiology laboratory, with a minimum 1 years experience in a supervisory role.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lab Manager in the promotion of continuous improvement and good practice.
  • Provide supervision and support of Laboratory Technicians.
  • Assist the Lab Manager in managing the day to day operation of the lab.
  • Allocation of testing to appropriate laboratory staff.
  • Supervision of testing through lab to required turnaround-times.
  • Conduct lab investigations and microbiological analysis of samples for clients.
  • Maintenance of the LIMS system, liaising with the Lab Manager to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance of lab activities with the quality management system, and maintenance of appropriate records, liaising with the QA Supervisor.
  • Draft client reports of analysis for approval by Technical Supervisor(s).
  • Report non-conformances and out of spec results, assisting investigation with Lab Manager.
  • Quality control tests of media and reagents, including tests for sterility and growth promotion.
  • Conduct routine calibration / validation of laboratory equipment.
  • Manage and maintain company culture collection.
  • Maintain stocks of PPE and liaise with suppliers in order to ensure sustainability of supply.
  • Supervise safe disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Deputise for Laboratory Manager in their absence.
  • Complete registration of samples onto LIMS system.
  • Some attendance to client sites for sampling /hygiene audits.
    • Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in microbiology or similar biological science; or equivalent lab experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience at analyst level within a microbiology lab.
  • Minimum 1 years experience in supervisory role.
  • Previous experience working under ISO 9001 accreditation or similar.
  • Ability to manage people and lead by example.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Good aseptic technique.
  • Ability to record results/data accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
  • Computer literate, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Experience of Molecular Biological Techniques would be highly desirable.
  • Experience of Site Sampling / Hygiene Audits would be highly desirable.
