Job Description

Job Title: Second Charge Mortgage UnderwriterLocation: Cardiff. Remote working for now and there would be flexibility between home and office working once the office reopens.Salary: £23,000 - £26,000 plus annual bonusBenefits:

    • About the role of Second Charge Mortgage UnderwriterOur client is a leading provider of Second Charge Mortgages for homeowners in England, Wales and Scotland. They have recently launched new products and due to an increase in buisness, they have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their expanding Underwriting Team. The successful candidate will be reporting into the Underwriting Manager and will hold a mandate of £50,000.Responsibilities for the position of Second Charge Mortgage Underwriter
  • Accurately assess the risk on second charge loan applications ensuring that the loan is affordable, plausible and sustainable.
  • Compose logical lending rationales for all cases reviewed.
  • Minimise the risk to the business and the applicant with a strong focus on fraud avoidance.
  • Agree exceptions within mandate, ensuring that an appropriate lending rationale is applied to each case.
  • Provide a high level of customer service at all stages of an application to brokers, customers and third parties.
  • Maintain and demonstrate an awareness of external factors and market conditions which may affect underwriting decision making.
  • Ensure that regulatory requirements are adhered to throughout the process and in all contact with customers, brokers and third parties.
  • Accurately prepare secured loans for offer within agreed timescales.
  • Adhere to compliance and data protection policies.
  • Recommend changes and improvements to policies and procedures.
    • Experience required for the position of Second Charge Mortgage Underwriter
  • Must have minimum 12 months Mortgage Underwriting experience within First or Second Charge Mortgages.
  • Previous experience working for a Secured Lender, Bank or Building Society is essential.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with full CeMAP qualification.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Must have great written communication skills.
  • Proven experience in working with SLAs.
  • Ability to effectively manage workload.
  • Proven experience of delivering a great level of service.
