Our highly successful client in Cardiff, a leader in their sector, are recruiting for an experienced Research Scientist to join them on a permanent basis. This is a new role and is an exciting part of the companys continued expansion. Our client sells their highly specialist globally into a niche sector space, and are seeking a self-motivated, focused individual to manage and drive their Research & Development programme based at the Companys modern and bright Headquarters in Cardiff.Working alongside PhD Microbiologists, led by the Senior Management Team, and supported by their highly skilled laboratory technicians, this exciting new role provides a unique opportunity to join a technically driven, dynamic company, which prides itselfon technical excellence.This is a unique opportunity to join a highly respected company with a long history of success. Our client offers a superb working environment, excellent company benefits and a generous package including salary between 35-40k (DOE) and company bonus. Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, organise, resource, progress and conduct R&D work in accordance with the R&D programme and the Senior Management Team.
• Contribute research and innovation ideas which may lead to improvement of the companys product and service offers.
• Conduct microbiological and other scientific investigations in the laboratory and acquire, analyse, and interpret data.
• Keep accurate records of all technical data including QC, methodology and results.
• Communicate progress and outcomes of research projects through technical reports and presentations at SMT meetings.
• Assist in the initial evaluation and on-going review of project proposals, including literature review, lab bench work and consideration of market potential.
• Develop budgets and identify resources needed for proposed and approved R&D projects.
• Procure equipment, materials and consumables and control R&D expenditure to efficiently meet the requirements of the R&D programme in line with agreed budgets.
• Liaise with external partners and stakeholders in respect of technical and financial aspects of the research projects and customer trials.
• Supervise lab technicians when they are assigned to assist with laboratory research projects.
• Train other technical staff to carry out procedures necessary for conducting research work or in procedures newly developed as part of the R&D programme.
• Attend relevant scientific and technical meetings to acquire knowledge relevant to the company R&D programme and develop personal knowledge.
• Represent the company at meetings or on technical committees related to R&D.

Skills & Knowledge

• Broad technical understanding of industrial and/or environmental microbiological issues.
• Broad understanding of standard microbiological analytical methods and principles of QA and QC in a microbiology laboratory.
• Experience at analyst/scientist level in a microbiology laboratory.
• Experience of molecular microbiology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, qPCR and DNA sequencing.
• PhD in Microbiology or a related science
• Experience of other microbial detection technologies such as ATP, immunoassay, culture, microscopy.
• Analysis tasks require good vision, mobility, and manual dexterity.
