Job Description

The Neuroscience Department based within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board currently holds vacancies for Band 5 Registered Nurse. If you are looking to gain wider nursing experience within a specialist service to further develop your career pathway we are able to offer you some exciting opportunities.B4 Neurosurgery is a 29 bedded acute neurosurgical ward which supports patients with a wide range of acute neurosurgical conditions that require emergency neurosurgical intervention.Cardiff is the only acute neurosurgical unit in Wales and patients are admitted from a wide demographic area. We care for and support patients who have undergone brain surgery for a wide range of neurological conditions and have many subspecialties within this field of neurosurgical nursing. Our nurses care for those with both benign and malignant brain and spinal tumours. A neurovascular team is on hand for patients who present with subarachnoid haemorrhage and aneurysms as this can often be life threatening and early intervention is required to diagnose and treat. We care for patients who have sustained or presented with traumatic and cognitive brain injuries requiring specialist input from our clinical phycology and TBI (traumatic brain injury specialist team). Many of our patients require very complex surgery to the skull base and again this is supported by specialist skull based team.Career progression and development are actively encouraged and supported through a wide range of sub specialities from neurovascular, neuro- oncology, skull base and traumatic brain injury specialist nursing roles along with clinical nurse practitioners.B4 neurosurgery has an excellent nurse to patient ratio in line with Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016.
