Job Description

Product Manager - WalesSalary: £50k - £55k (depending on experience)Location: Wales - at present we do not have a physical office and are all working remotely. Once restrictions ease, we will discuss with our staff any potential blended models of home and office/hub working. We will continue to support remoteworking where needed.Term: Fixed term contract to March 2022.This is a fixed term appointment, however there may be the possibility of the role becoming permanent should additional funding be secured.This role is available as a secondment for Welsh public sector employees. Please follow your own organisations policy around informing and getting permission from line managers.The ability to speak and write Welsh is desirable.Applications may be submitted in Welsh and will not be judged less favourably than those submitted in English.SummaryAbout the Centre for Digital Public Services (CDPS)Here to deliver better public services that work for everyone the Centre for Digital Public Services (Wales) is an arms-length body of Welsh Government setup to enable and support digital transformation of public services in Wales.We work with colleagues across the public sector in Wales to deliver services that are accessible to everyone and ensure the people that design and deliver the services have the skills, capability and support they need.The RoleAs Product Manager supporting the Head of Digital Skills and Capability you will be responsible for the development of our skills and capability work.As an experienced practitioner, youll also identify and bring inspiration and best practices from the product management community to shape and improve how we work.Youll be an advocate for user-centered design within an agile framework, and be able to play back product design choices.What Youll DoYour work will focus on what the training and support offering could look like for the leadership and teams/squads the Centre supports within the Welsh Public Sector.

  • Identify and build strong relationships with users, stakeholders and partner organisations, influencing and collaborating with them to develop accessible products and services.
  • Develop an expert understanding of the user needs and champion these in the delivery of your product.
  • Drive the definition and prioritisation for solutions and features across the end-to-end journey or journey step.
  • Develop and prioritise a product backlog, writing good user stories and making decisions based on evidence and user needs.
  • Set measurable business goals for your product and report against them.
  • Ensure your products meet Digital Service Standards and apply principles that help to maximise value and ensure great user experiences.
  • Manage relationships between your team and others to ensure consistency and share good practice.
  • Prioritise and refine high-level requirements of single features and solutions in the end-to-end journey.
  • Represent CDPS and our skills and training work steams, both internally and externally, running demos and workshops, blogging, and speaking at events
  • Coach and mentor CDPS staff on agile product management.
  • Be an agile and product development evangelist, sharing best practice and learnings with other Welsh public sector colleagues.

  • Good time management and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Communication: able to persuade, negotiate, influence, network and collaborate.
  • Getting to the heart of an issue quickly and clearly, demonstrating expert knowledge in an applied setting.
  • Understanding of the political and social landscape of Wales.
