PHP DeveloperSoftware Development DepartmentSalary: £31,365 to £37,890Hours: 37.5hrs per weekPermanentThe department is responsible for the design, development, delivery and service management of ICT systems. We play a key role in the delivery of safe, effective healthcare for patients across the whole of Wales. This means ensuring that whilst IT systems store information securely, they also allow the relevant information to be available to the right staff, in the right place, at the right time to support patient care.What you will be doingWe are looking for a PHP all-rounder to take the lead on development of our Moodle service.Strong SQL skills are required as the role will have an emphasis on developing reporting solutions, but will also encompass customization, integration, and development of themes and plugins.The successful applicant will be able to make best use of native Moodle functionality and available plugins/themes as well as develop bespoke solutions to meet customer requirements.You will also be expected to create and maintain documentation, and mentor more junior developers and value software craftsmanship and where coding is done the right way.What we are looking forThe ideal candidate will be a talented and experienced Moodle developer, but applicants with proven PHP experience and the willingness and ability to learn something new will also be considered.We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate proven experience and strong skills in the following areas:*PHP 7 development*Responsive Design*Strong understanding and experience of working with Microsoft SQL Server and/or MySQL *HTML, CSS (Less / Sass) and JavaScript/jQuery*MVC framework*Work to best practices in source code management, using source control tools and the standard processes*Code peer review to improve the quality of software development*Work independently, help others and ask for help without hesitation*Strong communication skills and self-management skills*Effective written and verbal communication skillsFamiliarity in the following areas will also be advantageous:*General experience with Moodle*In-depth familiarity with the Moodle codebase and database structure*Moodle theme and plugin development*Integration with external systems You will also have a strong desire to develop your skills in: -*Software Development Life Cycle preferably using Agile methodologies such as SCRUM *Database source control*OOP, unit testing and software design patterns*Test Driven DevelopmentWhat we are looking for*You want the opportunity to work on a continuous stream of new enterprise developments using new tech.*You want to improve your skills by attending industry seminars, our own in-house workshops and workshops run by suppliers such as Microsoft and Redgate*Youre interested in job security tied to a good salary and pension bundle.*But above all you want to build good software systems that deliver better care to those who need it!The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
