THIS POST IS A FIXED TERM CONTRACT FOR 2 YEARS DUE TO FUNDINGAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Psychology Service based at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The post is fixed term for 2 years and funded by Noahs Ark Charity at the Childrens Hospital for Wales.The successful applicant will make a significant contribution to the development of this newly established NICU psychology service which provides support to families of premature and medically fragile babies. The service also provides training, consultation and wellbeing support to the staff caring for these families. You will be involved in supporting psychological assessment, observations and interventions, co-facilitating groups and undertaking administrative tasks. The post holder will also assist with audit, literature reviews, developing resources and service evaluations. There is a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary working with medical specialists, therapists and nursing staff. As part of the role the post holder will spend time on the unit which involves sharing in family’s progress but also being alongside distress and medical complexity. All work will be supervised by the Noah’s Ark Principal Clinical Psychologist.You will join a dynamic team of psychologists in the wider Child Health Psychology Service in Cardiff and Vale UHB. Clinical supervision, joint working, CPD, training and peer support are integral to the service. The department enjoys a good relationship with the wider psychology community and South Wales Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology.The post will suit someone who has experience of working in a medical setting and with parents and children and/or babies.
