Job Description

Job Title: Laboratory ManagerLocation: Cardiff, WalesSalary: £48,000 to £55,000 per annumJob Type: Permanent/Full-timeHours: 40hrs a weekForming part of the SYNLAB Group and acquired in 2011, Lextox is a well-established ISO 17025 UKAS accredited testing laboratory based in Cardiff. Lextox provide drug, alcohol and DNA testing services for family law cases and childcare proceedings. SYNLABin the UK is a trusted expert in clinical laboratory and medical diagnostic services.Due to growth, we have a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Manager to join our team at Lextox, on a full time and permanent basis.   • Ensuring that the company meets the technical and process requirements of ISO 17025 and UKAS Lab 51.
  • Managing all laboratory staff and ensuring that SOPs are maintained and reflect current practice.
  • Monitor laboratory performance, internally generated QC samples and any developing trends. Action any non-conformances raised in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring laboratory staff answer client queries concerning their results, in a professional friendly manner and on a timely basis.
  • Developing and implementing laboratory staff training plans.
  • Responsible for the development and validation of new and existing methods of detection by GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS.
  • Working with our research team to help define and implement practice, process and protocol improvements to our workflow in the laboratory.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Educated to Degree Level in Biology or Chemist related subject.
  • Minimum of 8 years Laboratory experience with at least 2 years experience in management of an accredited laboratory.
  • Experience in ISO 17025 accredited lab.
  • Experience in working within a regulated QMS.
  • People management and development of teams and individuals.
  • Ability to think both strategically, plan-ahead and make timely decisions with a high-level of attention to detail.
Desirable:
  • Recognised management qualification.
