Job Description

NHS Wales Informatics Service is looking for a highly skilled and professional Cloud Technology Lead to join the Data Centre Services Team.The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that NWIS is in a position ensure cloud adoption can be accelerated rapidly with a focus on security and DevOps practices.The initial focus of the position will be Azure adoption, however NWIS’ long term strategy is likely to develop to include multi cloud service deployments to ensure service and application availability.Ideal candidateThe ideal candidate will have a extensive experience as a dedicated Azure administrator with experience of IaaS, PaaS offerings.Azure Experience:

  • Deployment automation and configuration using ARM Templates & Azure CLI.
  • Extensive experience of the majority of the following native Azure Features
  • Azure Networking (VPN Gateway, vNet’s, Application Gateway, Peering, Azure Firewall etc)
  • Azure Virtual Machines (VM Sizing, Availability, Encryption, Replication, Scale Sets & Migration)
  • SQL (Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance
  • Azure Storage Accounts
  • Azure Backup
  • Azure Availability Services (Traffic Manager, Load Balancer, Application Gateway & FrontDoor)
  • DevTest Labs
  • Azure Monitor
  • Azure App Service
  • Azure Web Apps
  • Azure Site Recovery
  • Azure File Replica
  • Azure Automation
  • Experience of the following would be beneficial.
  • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Azure API Management
  • Azure Service Bus
  • Azure File Sync
  • Operating Systems: Should have experience of Windows Server 2012 R2 to 2019 deployment and management.Scripting & Automation : Powershell, Azure CLI, Azure Powershell. (Other Azure Supported Shells)Security: Cloud Network and PaaS Security along with key security principles (Confidentiality, Integrity & Availability)Networking: Fundamentals of TCP/IP, networking interfaces and routing.The following skills and qualifications would be beneficial.On-Premise Virtualisation: Sound understanding of VmWare & Hyper V as a source of virtual machines to migrate to cloud service.Qualifications: The following qualifications would be extremely beneficial.
  • AZ-103 – Microsoft Azure Administrator
  • AZ-203 – Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure
  • AZ-300 - Microsoft Azure Architect Technologies
  • AZ-500 - Microsoft Azure Security Technologies
  • The successful applicant will :-
  • Implement, Manage and maintain the national services used to provide critical systems to NHS Wales using cloud based services.
  • Lead a small team of Cloud administrators
  • Define robust operating procedures for day to day team operations.
  • Work with design team to ensure effective implementation and acceptance into service of new systems.
  • Work with and provide guidance to other teams and organisations in NHS Wales.
