Job Description

Health and Safety ManagerCardiffPermanent£45,000 to £50,000 per annumAcorn Recruitment is working with a local waste management company seeking a Health & Safety Manager to manage the Health & Safety for the business with a presence daily across sites.The role is with an organisation in the process in the midst of continued growth with huge potential going forwards in a sector secure for long term employment.Job Duties:* Determines the strategic direction and work priorities (in conjunction with line management) for the continuous improvement of the office and Sites H&S management program and systems, following guidance as set out in the company health & safety manual "asappropriate"* Advises line management and assists with the implementation of new or existing H&S related legislation, rules and Company standards to include health and safety awareness training, site inspections of the company and sub-contractors.* To ensure that all compliance with statutory inspections is maintained and in date- e.g LOLER thorough examinations etc.* To complete safety-based compliance & prevention inspections on a regular basis and ensure records maintained of same.* To investigate accidents and ensure all documentation is updated.* To report to the HSE any incidents falling under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases or Dangerous Occurrence Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR)* To liaise where necessary with external legislative bodies (NRW, HSE etc)* To develop a monthly H&S Communication Strategy for all sites and levels of staff, to include written information, toolbox talks and management briefs.* To maintain Accident, Incident, Near Miss, Fire & COVID statistics & report same to Senior Management with associated recommendations for any actions arising as a result.* To complete Trend Analysis of statistical information and recommend / implement mitigating actions as a result.* Full responsibility for Company preparations for monthly H&S audits.* Liaison with Operations and site managers for initiating and coordinating training plan and updating information for personnel.* To assist in retaining all current H&S accreditations (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 ISO 45001:2018, SMAS etc.) and work towards the attainment of new accreditations as required.* Advises line management in the Office and on Site of health & safety matters and manages this process to ensure all advice is incorporated into day-to-day processes and operations.* Leads the Company in meeting its obligations under the "Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974" CDM 2015 and all applicable H&S regulations and supporting ACoPs, British Standards etc. * Provides support and expertise to line management in incident investigation and reporting.* Prepare site-specific Method Statements, facilitates all forms of risk assessments e.g., general, site & task specific, manual handling, COSHH, fire prevention and acts as a final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessmentsperformed by others on site.* Conducts or facilitates occupational health and safety related surveys e.g., noise, lighting, dust, exposure to chemical substances and makes associated recommendations.* Monitors the Site "permit to work" system to ensure compliance with Company standards.* Manages the H&S Council and ensures monthly H&S meetings are conducted and any actions arising as a result are addressed.* Assists with PQQs, tender/submission documentation.Key Requirements:* General NEBOSH Certificate NEBOSH Construction Certificate* Previous experience in a similar management role* Experience of ISO 450018 Previous experience in the waste management industry is essential due to the nature of the clients growth and need for candidate to understand to the sector of work with immediate effectTo be considered, please apply with your up to date CV.Acorn Recruitment acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment.
