Job Description

A Biotechnology Company is looking for a Development Scientist to join its growing team. Reporting to the NPD Manager, this challenging role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a customer focused NPD team as the high level Technical Lead on projects to successfully develop new enzyme products for our customers and markets. You must hold a Masters or PhD Biochemistry, Biology or related subject and have significant practical experience in fermentations (bacterial or yeast), downstream processing, molecular cloning or bioinformatics to apply for this role.Key activities:

  • Technically lead enzyme development projects (primarily fermentation and downstream processing) in a technically competent way that will deliver successful new products
  • Efficient planning, execution, data analysis and clear communication with project team for completion of project deliverables on time.
  • Deliver high level technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Prepare and deliver customer reports, presentations or literature searches.
  • Generate novel/innovative solutions as part of developing new products
  • Identify and develop relationships with key external partners and experts
  • Efficient development and validation of analytical methods (including enzyme assays).
  • Writing technical plans and work packages for project proposals.Train, develop, coach and mentor lab technicians and work placement students
  • Carry out the responsibilities stated in the Managing Directors Health & SafetyPolicy detailed in paragraphs 9 and 10 of his Management Directive
  • Be conversant with and adopt the procedures stated in the Environmental Management System (EMS) Manual and its supporting document
  • Communication - The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, orally or in writing
  • Analytical thinking - The capacity to analyse situations, diagnose problems, identify the key issues, establish and evaluate alternative courses of action and produce a logical, practical and acceptable solution
  • Technical/work based skills - Possession of the knowledge, understanding and expertise required to carry out the work effectively

  • Planning & Organisation - The ability to decide on courses of action, ensuring that the resources required to implement the action will be available and scheduling the programme of work required to achieve a defined end- result
    • Qualifications/Education/Training:
  • Masters or PhD Biochemistry, Biology or related subject
  • Significant practical experience in one or more of the following: fermentations (bacterial or yeast), downstream processing, molecular cloning and bioinformatics,
