Job Description

Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist for acute neurosurgery/acute neurology-part time 30 hoursA unique opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Occupational Therapist to lead the acute Occupational Therapy Specialist Services for acute neurosurgery/neurology based at the University hospital of Wales.This reconfigured position provides an excellent opportunity for development of the Occupational Therapy acute service. We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, innovative and forward thinking Occupational Therapist with excellent communication and organisational skills plus a passion for neurology based care deliveryYou will lead the acute team working closely with the Occupational Therapy lead for acute stroke service. Clinically, you will manage a caseload of service users presenting with complex/highly complex needs delivering specialist neuro based assessments and identifying and managing clinical need/risk. Working collaboratively with the multiprofessional team, you will deliver current evidence based neuro interventions as part of the rehabilitation plan, promoting wellbeing and optimising outcomes.You will have experience of complex disability management including postural management/seating, upper limb management/splinting, complex discharge planning. Experienced of regional discharge planning/repatriation would support this role.You will develop clinical pathways and networks, working collaboratively with key individuals and services within Neurosurgery/Neurology MDT including TBI Practitioner, Major Trauma Centre/Polytrauma Unit, Critical Care, Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation, Community Brain Injury Service as well as other local and regional hospital or community based services.Within the Occupational Therapy acute service, you will also work closely with the Band 7 teamleader for stroke developing opportunities for shared learning and development.You will actively promote service improvement and innovation including use of technology to support virtual activities.In return, we are highly committed to personal and professional development and you will be supported in the role by Clinical Lead for Specialist Service.
