Job Description

My client in Cardiff is looking for an experienced Band 7 Biochemistry Biomedical Scientist for a locum contract.Job Role:

  • Monday- Friday
  • 37.5 hrs p/w
  • Assist the Lead Biomedical Scientist by supervising on a day to day basis, specialist area of the Newborn Screening Laboratory in order to maintain the provision of a high quality service to patients
  • The post holder is required to use their own initiative in the role, and will be expected to undertake both technical and clinical authorisation of results produced by basic grade staff working under their direction in the section.
  • The post holder is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Tandem Mass Spectrometers.
  • Supervision of trainee and basic grade biomedical scientists, trainee/qualified clinical scientists, medical staff and other support staff rotating through section.
Qualifications and Experience required:
  • HCPC registered as a BMS
  • Masters qualification in Biomedical science
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Biochemistry or Immunology
  • Significant Post HCPC registration experience in a medical laboratory with a wide understanding of Medical Biochemistry techniques
  • Experience and understanding of New Born Screening
  • Team Leadership
  • Good IT Skills
  • Evidence of teaching and presentation
