This is a fixed term post for 18 months, due to funding.If you are an Public Health Wales employee this post will only be offered on a secondment basis and you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview.Public Health Wales Microbiology Cardiff is situated within the University Hospital of Wales and Llandough Hospital and is one of the largest Microbiology Laboratories in Wales, providing a wide range of diagnostic services to hospitals, clinics and general practitioners of South Glamorgan and throughout the Principality.The laboratory offers a comprehensive Bacteriology service, incorporates a specialist Virology centre, Molecular and Mycology units, the National Anaerobe Reference Unit, Specialist Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Unit the Wales Centre for Mycobacteria and the newly formed Pathogen Genomics Unit. The Clinical Laboratories are ISO accredited and approved by a number of bodies for training purposes.As part of an all-Wales Microbiology network that provides support for Health Protection across Wales, Public Health Wales Microbiology Cardiff could be required at short notice to respond to public health emergencies, including outbreaks and other emergency situations.Due to the recent COVID-19 situation, we have one full time and one part time fixed term role which we are seeking enthusiastic people for, to join our team within the Pathogen Genomics Unit. The role will include the provision of expert bioinformatics support to the Pathogen Genomics Programme for Public Health Wales and directly contributing to the research activities of the Unit.
