As this role will be focusedon the Welsh Metal Mines Programme, working closely with our Welsh based teams on sites spread across Wales, this role will suit candidates within easy travel distance to Wales and thus we are happy to see applications from areas outside of Wales.About the Assistant Project Manager (Welsh Metal Mines Programme) role: This is a key position within the Environment Department Projects Team, assisting and leading on the project management of often complex, strategically important projects, which assess, develop and implement intervention strategies (including minewater remediationschemes) to address issues resultant from legacy mining activities.The Programme is responsible for the assessment, development, planning and delivery of pollution mitigation and environmental improvement projects, across the portfolio of abandoned metal mine sites in Wales; it is being jointly delivered together with NRW,requiring truly collaborative working.Key responsibilities as ourAssistant Project Manager (Welsh Metal Mines Programme)will include:

  • Work with Project Managers / project teams to identify and obtain advice and support relating to risks, constraints and opportunities during all stages of a project, including the development (scoping, feasibility, design, consenting, planning), constructionand operational stages.
  • Take the lead on managing lowmedium risk projects / tasks, dependent upon experience and as determined with the Project Manager(s) and Programme Lead.
  • Liaising with and managing internal and external stakeholders such as NRW (and other delivery partner organisations and statutory bodies).
  • To commission services of consultants and contractors, such as the procurement and commissioning of environmental and engineering studies and surveys and including managing and holding those suppliers accountable for delivery.
  • Co-ordinating design, pre-start and other liaison meetings (virtual and on-site), to discuss project development matters, with other specialists, project management personnel, regulators and other stakeholders (National Park Authorities / Local Authorities/ Mine Conservation bodies / landowners and similar).
  • Conduct site visits during project development stages and also to check on installation, maintenance and performance of assets, both during and post construction.
What were looking for in ourAssistant Project Manager (Welsh Metal Mines Programme):
  • Able to demonstrate suitable experience for the role, including a qualification (at HND or equivalent level) in an appropriate discipline
  • Knowledge of NEC or similar conditions of contract
  • Knowledge of project management processes, tools and techniques including programmes / work schedules
  • Working in a programme and project management environment with some Project Management experience
