Job Description

Exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing healthcare business as a Laboratory Manager responsible for running and developing the Pathognomics laboratory.Client DetailsMy client is a rapidly growing health care business who provide digital diagnostic infrastructure to drive the earlier detection of disease. They have a state of the art laboratory based in Cambridgeshire and are looking for a Laboratory Manager to join the team.DescriptionThe Laboratory Manager will play a crucial role in running and developing the Pathognomics laboratory, this role reports to the Senior Director of Laboratory Operations. You will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the laboratory, including managing all aspects of health and safety, ensuring compliance with Human Tissue Act and acting as Person Designate. They will manage a team of BMSs and MLAs.

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the laboratory
  • Manage the laboratory budget, budget priorities and equipment selection
  • Undertake the procurement of equipment and consumables in accordance with companys policy
  • Ensure there are sufficient resources of appropriate quality to provide the service
  • Monitor and implement the companys policies and procedures
  • Oversee the in-service training and welfare of the staff they line manage
  • Carry out annual appraisals of staff they line manage
  • Ensure the laboratory meets standards and current legislation for the handling of clinical specimens e.g. ISO 15189, HTA, ICO, NHS digital and Health and Safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures by undertaking audits of technical and clinical procedures
  • Undertake Continuing Professional Development to the standards required by the Health Care Professions Council
  • Profile
  • BSc or equivalent in a biological discipline
  • Registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Practical experience working in a pathology laboratory, ideally a minimum of 5 years experience
  • Use and maintenance of laboratory specialist equipment, including automated in situ staining platforms, digital slide scanners and image analysis software packages
  • Laboratory management
  • Team and staff management
  • Advanced knowledge of histopathology involving a critical understanding of relevant theory and/or principles of laboratory processes including FFPE histology, immunohistochemical staining, image analysis, digital slide scanning, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridisation, multiplex immunoassays, automated immunostaining
  • Thorough understanding of Health and Safety Regulations, human tissue governance and how to apply them in the laboratory environment
