Job Description

Company Profile:

  • With a national presence, the company are a leading Innovative Packaging materials & Bespoke Packaging Solutions Provider to an array of industries. The company are looking for a General Manager to join their team.

Purpose of the General Manager Role:
  • Define, develop and deliver the overall business strategy in line to maximise the growth and profitability potential.
Key Accountabilities of the General Manager:
  • Communicate the vision and strategy to all direct reports and the wider business.
  • Develop organisational plans and maximise performance, whilst exercising strong financial and budgetary control.
  • Adherence to all appropriate ethical and lawful standards as required of a Company Director.
  • Maintain health & safety standards always.
  • Make recommendations to Divisional MD on strategic or operational improvements of margin or growth, including acquisition targets, new markets and enabling technology.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with customers and suppliers to continuously build on the service and product offering.
  • Attract, retain and develop the senior leadership team to fulfil the strategic and operational objectives of the business.
  • People management of the senior leadership team, in line with the group employee life cycle.
  • Monitor and report on all measurable objectives including sales, costs, working capital, PBIT and trends.
  • Implement, promote and monitor sustainability and corporate governance targets and opportunities.
Sales & Business Development
  • Secure profitable new business within our chosen market sectors
  • Support the management of the external and internal sales team including objective setting, KPI review and regular performance reviews.
  • Drive the retention of our existing customers to maximise sales revenue, new product category profitability
  • Monitor customers sales performance in terms of their contribution and profitability.
  • Establish and develop relationships with our major customers at senior level and entertain clients as required
  • Negotiate major long-term agreements with our key existing customers.
  • Review major customer business plans & performance.
  • Ensure that the external sales team win profitable new business.
  • Continue to develop our Value Proposition, sales collateral, web site and social media to enhance the brand & support the development of our sales with existing & new customers
Sourcing & Supplier Management
  • Delivery of strategy in line with agreed critical success factors
  • Robust management of our existing supply partners ensuring fit for purpose products from suppliers who conform to the group Supplier Code of Conduct
  • Responsible for the management of our approved supplier listing and associated terms and conditions
  • Regular reviews with "preferred and strategic" suppliers
  • To support the negotiation of new and existing enquiries in conjunction with the sales management team
  • Major issue resolution - projects and suppliers where sales and stock control have been unable to address issues directly
  • Collaboration with the wider group re: current supplier performance, future sourcing requirements and tender opportunities
  • Deliver regular updates on activity and performance to management teams
Operations & Logistics
  • Support the operational needs of the business. Manage, negotiate and secure external business to provide additional revenue through utilising available warehouse space within our facilities
  • Formulate and communicate strategic plans to deliver best in class operations
  • Review progress against our strategic plan for all operational efficiency programmes
  • Ensure continuous improvement is delivered through our Warehouse Management System and support further development with IT
