Job Description

We are looking for a Workshop Technician / Manufacturing Technician / Mechanical Fitter to join an exciting and expanding Cambridge based manufacturer of bespoke complex instrumentation used in high technology industries such as semiconductors. You willjoin a highly skilled and friendly team where you will utilise your workshop skills and experience to develop and support an array of one-off systems in this highly varied and interesting role.You will need previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter/ Workshop Technician / Prototype Technician involving fitting and assembling components for high technology equipment. You should also be skilled in using both hand and standard workshop machinetools. Ideally you will also have experience in machining and precision welding although training is on offer for the right candidate in these areas.Responsibilities of Workshop Technician / Mechanical Fitter

  • Fit and assemble parts and components to build new, or maintain existing equipment.
  • Test and identify defective or worn mechanical components.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to check parts for accuracy and fit.
  • Able to read drawing plans and specifications
  • Keep on top of scheduled build times
  • Machine precision components for new and existing equipment (training will be provided if necessary)
  • Weld components together (training will be provided if necessary)
  • Future leadership potential -ability to help train apprentices/new employees
Requirements for Workshop Technician / Mechanical Fitter
  • Apprenticeship / relevant NVQ / BTEC qualification in relevant subject highly desirable
  • Proven experience working as a mechanical fitter / Workshop technician / Manufacturing Technician.
  • Experience in a precision workshop/manufacturing/engineering environment
  • Experience working on project builds
  • Equipped in using both hand and machine tools
  • An eye for detail and a good problem solver
  • Awareness of safety regulations
  • A willingness to learn machining and welding skills if necessary
