We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).In October 2019, we became the first trust to be rated ‘outstanding’ in all five areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (safe, caring, effective, responsive, and well-led). We are committed to providing a positive, supportive experience for all of our staff.The post holder will be required to participate as silver cover for the trust on a call rotaPapworth Hospital is an internationally renowned centre offering specialist care for patients with cardio-respiratory conditions. Our focus is providing the highest standard of care.The post holder will be responsible to the DeputyChief Operating Officer and work closely with the Theatre and Critical Care Matrons, Head of Nursing, Clinical Director and speciality clinical leads to ensure leadership and management of resource, performance and standards of care. The Theatre and Critical Care Directorate are part of the Surgery, Transplant and Anaesthetic division.You will need to demonstrate experience of line management of staff, financial management and service development is essential.
