Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Technical Author to join an expanding team at a excellent Cambridge based R&D business. You will be joining an industry leader who design, develop and manufacture high-tech electromechanical systems that have amultitude of clients across the world!The Technical Author will be responsible for researching, preparing and creating technical documentation to established quality standards and processes. The position requires experience and skills relating to the creation of both customer and engineer-centriccontent, working with in a product development environment. Thus, the successful candidate must have an engineering background with an appreciation for software controlled electromechanical systems!This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical Writer to join a well-established high technology company which offers excellent career development, investment, salary, and benefits within a rewarding and stimulating work environment.Technical Author responsibilities:

  • To analyse, research and prepare content for customers including user manuals & addenda, so they can safely and effectively operate and maintain their product.
  • To analyse, research and prepare content for engineering teams - including commissioning and repair procedures to allow them to support the customer base.
  • To work collaboratively with all teams to ensure that the necessary content is provided to plan.
  • To ensure departmental records are fully maintained and accurate.
Experience and skills required:
  • Degree level qualification or similar, within engineering or scientific discipline and excellent knowledge of written English language and grammar
  • Around 5 years experience as a Technical Author preparing user manuals and technical procedures for software-controlled electromechanical equipment
  • Thorough understanding of the document creation cycle and roles of other key departments
  • Working knowledge of MadCap Flare, Adobe Framemaker, InDesign, Illustrator & Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of Markup languages (HTML) and experience of single source publishing and document management systems required.
