Job Description

EA First are excited to have been engaged by a well-established Scientific research organisation specializing in genomics and genetics research, they are recruiting for a Systems Administrator to join their IT support team on a 6 Month Contact.The main responsibilities of this role will be to deliver a high quality, customer focused IT and telecommunications service to the organisation through the provision of technical support, training, solutions provision including R&D into new & existing technologiesand to facilitate the effective use of the IT infrastructure resource in support of the aims of the company.Main duties will include:

  • To undertake, through communication with customers, the development of effective working relationships to increase the understanding and support of end users needs and enhance the IT service provision.
  • To support Senior Systems Administrators in undertaking project work as directed, to help implement and maintain the proposed solutions as requested to ensure a high quality IT provision for end users.
  • To participate in the Service desk rota, prioritising work; allocating tickets, co-ordinating daily work to ensure a good timely response to issues to maintain an effective IT service.
  • To demonstrate a high degree of initiative to investigate and resolve IT and telecoms issues but seek assistance from more senior administrators if necessary.
  • To participate in the evaluation of desktop hardware, software and IT consumables to ensure that products purchased are of the appropriate quality and specification and meet the needs of the end users.
  • To provide coaching to team members with less experience and technical knowledge to enable them to become more proficient and able to work more independently.
  • To understand the requirements of various applications and specify the mostappropriate and cost effective hardware/software solutions to support them, seeking assistance from the Senior Systems Administrators as necessary.
Skills required:
  • Experience of providing a broad based technical support IT service within a complex service environment (E)
  • Working knowledge/understanding of range of operating systems including Microsoft and MacOSX systems (E)
  • The ability to demonstrate a good working knowledge of MS Office and range of PC applications. (E)
  • Good understanding of the internet, global networks, and networking technologies (E)
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and verbally) with all levels of management & staff (E)
  • The ability to effectively explain technical issues to non-technical users. (E)
  • The ability actively question and listen to be able to problem solve (E)
  • Good level of problem solving/analytical skills (E)
  • Experience of delivering customer focused services (E)
  • Proven ability and enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies(E)
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation. (E)
  • ITIL3 or 4 Foundation Certificate in Service Management or previous experience of delivering customer focused IT service in an ITIL environment. (D)
  • Experience of Unix system administration. (D)
