Job Description

* Cambridge* £30k - £45k* Cyber SecuritySystem Administrator* Cambridge * £30k to £45k* Salary: Competitive + Excellent BenefitsOur client provides research and development services that extend and enhance the ability of the UK and its Allies to defend themselves and to protect the future prosperity of their citizens.They are no ordinary research and development consultancy.They are part of a larger Group, which is an employee-owned trust; here you will get to make a valued contribution with your unique skills set.The Role:As a System Administrator, you will be working on an interesting variety of hardware and software challenges.With every solution you find, youll be helping our scientists and engineers in their endeavours - and, whenever you need it, youll be guided and supported by colleagues in the Group IT Team.Requirements* You will ideally already have UK security clearance at SC or above - if not you must be eligible* This role is only suitable therefore for British nationals, or people who have lived in the UK for more than 5 years* Able to maintain, upgrade and manage software, hardware, and networks* Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude* You must be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly* You must have patience to communicate with variety of interdisciplinary teams and users* Your goal will be to ensure that technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently* Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role* Knowledge of system security* Experience with networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management* Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms* Excellent communication skills* Knowledge of operation in an isolated (air gapped) system would be usefulResponsibilities:* Install, configure software and hardware including network servers and technology tools* Manage and maintain our companys network infrastructure, including servers, switches* Ensure security and efficiency of IT infrastructure, setting up accounts and workstations* Perform routine system monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem resolution to ensure maximum uptime and optimal system behaviour* Implement and manage security measures to protect our systems and data, including backups and disaster recovery procedures* Provide technical support to internal users, resolving hardware and software issues promptly and effectively* Upgrade systems as appropriate to our working environment, monitor system performance and capacity to anticipate and prevent potential issues* Document system configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and maintain an up-to-date IT infrastructure inventory* Stay up to date with information, best practices, and technologies relevant to our system administrationWhy JoinThis is no ordinary research and development consultancy.
