Job Description

Software Engineer, PHP, Remote, £45k to £50kAvanti Recruitment is currently partnering with a Cambridge based software company who engineer groundbreaking products in the microbiology area (data processing, visualisations, analytics). You are welcome to work from the office in Ely, Cambridgeshirebut our client is remote by default.This is a great role for a Software Developer who is interested in "tech for good". Research into antimicrobial resistance is extremely important for a healthy future (e.g research into becoming immune to antibiotics over time).You will join at an exciting time of transition for the business, as they continue to move from more traditional software to a robust architecture for SaaS offerings.The Role;This mid-level role requires a general software engineering and development approach, including front-end UI development and back-end API development.The role is challenging and varied as you shape the software platform, looking at automation, scalability, unit testing and architecture to visualise, design and develop creative software solutions. This role reports to the Head of Engineering and works dailywith the Product Owner and the Engineering team.Responsibilities include;

  • Design, code and test solutions whilst adhering to best practice coding standards
  • Learn and understand system development lifecycle processes and apply appropriate methodologies
  • Apply and share knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service to clients
  • Understand project and development plans and clearly articulate your role within project goals and timelines
Ideal or equivalent skills;
  • Excellent and demonstrable proficiency in PHP
  • Excellent knowledge of Elasticsearch mapping and querying
  • High proficiency in Vue.js or other comparable frontend tech
  • Good working knowledge of software development and deployment processes and principles
  • Experience with more than one object-oriented programming language
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of object-oriented and component methodology and technology, including classes, components, objects, and interfaces
  • Nice to have skills which will help are:
  • Good understanding of Apache and Nginx, or equivalent HTTP server technologies
  • Actively using and up to date with cloud technologies like AWS
