Job Description

Your New roleHere at Highways England, we currently have a new opportunity for a Senior Engineer Pavements to join our team in Bedford, Waterbeach or Ipswich. Within this role, you will lead in the identification and evaluation of asset specific needs and early solutions,while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards; the role may be required to work unsociable hours.You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employmentWhat youll be leading on

  • Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of technology schemes.
  • Coordinating the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
  • The development of early solutions for renewals, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.
  • Monitoring the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to renew and/or rectify issues.
  • Ensuring that the asset data and condition information is captured and maintained in the relevant data bases, in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • Identification and preparation of briefs provided to design and construction contractors for renewals work.
  • To provide technical support to Project Managers.
  • Supporting the development of more junior team members, either through coaching or mentoring.
  • Supporting the development of the Regions asset needs requirements and initial solutions.
To be Successful
  • Degree in relevant discipline, Higher National Diploma, or Higher National Certificate with relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of relevant technical standards, asset policies and strategies.
  • Understanding of asset management decision making.
  • Strong knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling.
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highway network.
  • Understanding of the Value Management process and/or cost benefit analysis of schemes
  • Experience in highways infrastructure design, Experience in AutoCAD desirable.
  • Experience in pavement design, construction and condition assessment.
  • Experience in highway construction and delivery methods.
