Job Description

Public Health England and many of its employees will be in scope for transition to new organisations in Spring 2021. The recruitment, growth & development of our workforce is vital for the continuing success of PHE and thefuture National Institute for Health Protection.This is an exciting opportunity to join the Public Health Data Science team within the Health Intelligence Service, which is part of the Health Improvement Directorate within PHE. PHE is working to try to understand how data and data science can better support its prevention, improving health and wellbeing and healthcare variation and inequality programmes, and improve its decision making.As a Senior Data Scientist your role will be to work with colleagues to provide an infrastructure and service to improve and modernise PHE’s public health intelligence offer; to learn and apply new data science techniques to the exploitation of the data PHE collects, obtains and generates; to build data science capacity and capability. You will work with colleagues in the Health Intelligence service across the country to develop and deliver national health intelligence outputs on a range of public health priority topics. Your role will include working on statistical modelling of health conditions and risk factors, developing automated methods and tools for production and publication of indicators on a variety of platforms, providing training materials and support for data science methods and other general analytical tasks.We are looking for a self-motivated individual with experience of working with multiple sets of data and information systems, ideally in a health or related sector.
