Job Description

Senior BuyerCompetitive salary dependent on experienceHours: Monday to Friday - 08.00 - 16.30Location: CambridgeOur client works with start-ups to large global organisations forging strong relationships with leading companies.Primary purpose: Senior Buyer: Negotiating and Buying of goods, materials and services to meet the operational requirements in line with the appropriate ISO standards.Responsibilities: Senior Buyer

  • Purchase of goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Ensure stock levels are minimised whilst supporting the published lead-times and sales activities and meet or exceed internal and external customer expectations in terms of on-time in-full delivery performance.
  • Prepare and raise POs per the material lists generated by planning and match up with the WOs for preparation for goods in.
  • Management of site stores department; ensuring that materials, tools, and fixtures are supplied to production ahead of the production schedule.
  • To assist in the liaison between Engineering/Sales and Suppliers in obtaining quotations for new product programmes and ensuring agreed specifications and technical documents are approved before quotations are sought.
  • To maintain excellent relationships with the Strategic Supplier base and performance assess those suppliers in their ability to provide quality parts in the required lead times.
  • Implement purchasing objectives and target cost reductions, whilst maintaining high standards of procurement ethics.
  • Negotiate sourcing agreements for components from external suppliers by initiation of enquiries and negotiation of prices and delivery terms, to agreed specifications.
  • To maintain competitive advantage by ensuring lowest cost sourcing, to specified quality standards, for products and services. Deliver significant material cost reduction on priority strategic sourcing across the whole business unit, whilst minimising losstime due to material shortage and customer OTD.
  • Liaise with the Finance Department to ensure that invoice queries are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the group.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and suppliers.
  • Conduct research for new components and suppliers.
  • Ad hoc duties - Project work identified and agreed with CIQ Director
Skills / Experience: Senior Buyer
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Courteous and polite with customers and colleagues
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good appreciation of Engineering Quality requirements
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel and Progress MIS
  • Experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment desirable
