Competent in trouble shooting and theory. Possesses a general understanding of other specialisms within the Biopharmaceutical Development area. Typically Graduate.Typical Accountabilities

  • Contributes to the plans and designs of generation and characterisation of cell lines suitable for clinical supply of recombinant proteins and technology development and provides general scientific advice on specific topics to the team
  • Manages own work to ensure that agreed targets are met in a timely manner and to agreed quality standards, communicating progress appropriately
  • Performs relevant molecular and cell culture experiments to support Cell line development platform and technology development initiatives to improve capabilities and interprets results based on a standard methodology
  • May modify or improve processes and systems, depending on purpose of experiments
  • Assesses and reports data and contributes to written reports and procedures with little or no guidance, in a clear and concise manner, with a clear understanding of its implications within the overall context of drug development
  • Discusses and defends the findings of experiments at follow-up meetings, or corresponding forums
  • Provides technical instruction to the team and allocates administrative work where possible
  • Liaises with colleagues from other disciplines with the purpose of discussing project-related matters, sharing experiences and reporting progress
  • Develops own level of competency by reading articles, collaborating with peer scientists or through contacts by other internal groups
  • Searches for information which may improve Cell line development methodology and procedures
  • Ensures that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Education, Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • Graduate or experienced non-graduate
  • Understanding of the principles and concepts associated with Cell line development and an appreciation of the relevant science and literature
  • Problem-solving skills related to data analysis
  • Understanding of the basic principles and concepts and practical skills in molecular biology including expression plasmid design and construction, mammalian cell culture and stable mammalian cell line development
  • Understanding of compliance systems
  • Good communication skills
  • Good team working skills
  • Desirable
  • Understanding of range of disciplines within R&D
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience with cell line screening technologies such as microbioreactor systems and cell culture automation
  • Experience with CHO cell culture
  • Expertise in CHO cell engineering, including gene knock down and protein labelling techniques
