Job Description

Purpose of the role:Conduct drug discovery research projects, contribute to the development of new methodologies and create assays for demonstrating target engagement. Research for the expression, purification and characterisation of misfolding-related proteins. Advance research programmes around assay development for protein misfolding diseases.Client DetailsCompany overview:My client is a spin-off company from 2 leading universities, focussing on protein misfolding diseases. They are pioneering an entirely new approach based on decades of research focused on the chemical kinetics of the protein misfolding process. They are on a mission to eliminate protein misfolding diseases, improving the lives of countless patients globally suffering from these debilitating and increasingly common medical disorders.DescriptionKey responsibilities:

  • Develop antibody-based assays for the direct measurement of protein oligomeric toxic species
  • Design and carry out experiments and develop other biochemical and biophysical assays to quantify protein oligomers
  • Develop ELISA and SIMOA-based assays for assessing protein oligomer levels
  • Present data at cross-functional meetings and external conferences
  • Write and contribute to publications or disseminate research findings
  • Mentor and coach colleagues with less experience
  • ProfileMust have experience:
  • A PhD or extensive experience working in a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in ELISA and other antibody-based binding/diagnostic assays
  • Previous knowledge in studying protein aggregation and misfolding is highly valuable
  • Experience in the recombinant expression and purification of proteins using chromatography techniques and their further characterisation using biochemical and biophysical techniques is a plus
  • The ability to work independently and lead, organise and participate in collaborative research projects
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills is essential for working in highly multidisciplinary environments
  • Ability to handle effectively multiple projects and responsibilities
  • Experience in assisting to run a busy biophysical, biochemical or molecular biology laboratory
