Job Description

Brief Role Description:We are supporting our client who are a successful manufacturer of Safety Critical Components, in their search for a Research Manager (Vision & Optics) to join their expanding team.Responsibilities:

  • Work with strategists to seek out opportunities for innovation and disruption.
  • Take ideas from concept to proof of concept - scoping, designing, and leading research projects and programs, whilst remaining practical and hands-on.
  • Lead and inspire a research team - maintaining a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative environment that embraces success and learns from failure.
  • Be accountable for technical and scientific rigor in projects, as well as all project milestones and deliverables.
  • Promote scientific excellence through technical review, teaching, and mentoring, whilst seeking out opportunities for your own continued professional development.
  • Build and manage collaborations with third parties (academic and industry partners) for technology assessment, outsourcing, and integration.
About You:

  • A leader of productive early-stage technology research teams in an agile environment.
  • A senior scientist/engineer and subject matter expert in vision and optical systems with a Ph.D. in an appropriate field.
  • Significant experience managing research in the medical device or related industries.
  • Practical knowledge in several of the following domains: lenses; filters; camera sensors; image filtering, enhancement, and post-processing; computer vision and GPUs/hardware; image trans-mission; display technologies; and early phase pre-clinical/clinicalstudies.
  • Eagerness to participate in hands-on technical work whilst mentoring, developing, and inspiring others.
  • An effective communicator bringing structure and clarity to meetings, presentations, and technical reports.
  • The whole Research and Strategy team undertakes research projects in a wide variety of disciplines. Experience or knowledge of any of the following may be beneficial too (but are nonessential for this role):
  • Experience in or an understanding of medical device development: quality management systems (ISO 13485), risk management (ISO 14961), MDR and FDA.
  • User interfaces, haptic feedback, and human-computer interaction (HCI).
  • Non-vision sensing technologies.
  • Signal processing.
  • Data and/or image fusion techniques.
  • Robotic control systems.
  • Surgical instrumentation
  • Surgical energy devices.
