Job Description

Are you a born organiser Here is an interesting and quite unique role which will allow you to combine your technical knowledge with superb project skills. Reporting to and supporting some of Cambridge Universitys award-winning professors, who are world-renownedin their fields within Physics and Engineering, you will be an extremely valued and important part of their group. This is a fixed term position, with funding for 2 years initially, but is likely to be extended.Who are these peopleTheyre a Cambridge based team working within some of the worlds most advanced technologies; these experts are a collaboration of very bright minds, working to improve Cambridges visibility as we strive towards a more sustainable society. This incorporatesa range of other research organisations and activities.What will your role be

  • Based within the Universitys facilities (West Cambridge), your time will be spent working between the various departments and centres, supporting the group and being the glue that brings important events and workshops together
  • Update the website to communicate and exchange information
  • Organise activities and meetings, including designing and delivering workshops and presentations, ensuring rooms and meeting spaces are available
  • Supporting the development and ongoing strategy for the initiative and managing the team to implement and deliver the required activities
  • Manage relations with key internal and external stakeholders and ensure that agreed aims are met
  • Manage budgets
  • Communicate business needs and market drivers from industry
  • Business development work
What is required
  • A degree or higher in a relevant engineering / scientific subject (Physics would be ideal), you will need to be able to get your head around the broad areas of optoelectronics and photonics, including quantum technology, flexible and wearable electronics
  • Some experience with new product and / or process development for industry
  • Exposure to company dynamics and an understanding of bridging the gap between research and business goals
  • Experience in a commercial role, preferably with some experience of technical sales / marketing
  • Knowledge of the patenting process and licensing would be useful
  • Experience in new business development and setting B2B or academic-industry collaborations
  • IT skills, including basic knowledge of updating webpages and creating content for social media
  • Knowledge of IP management criteria would be extremely helpful
  • Confident communicator on all levels
  • Experience negotiating and handling collaborations and reporting within UK and EU projects is highly desirable
  • There may be some international travel
  • You will need to be flexible in regard to working hours as there will be some evening and weekend working involved to facilitate workshops
