Job Description

Research Assistant Scientist - Molecular Biology (6 months FTC)This job opportunity is with an award-winning biotech company in Cambridge that are looking to grow rapidly. They have developed a unique proprietary cellular reprogramming technology that has the potential to be revolutionary.This is a truly unique opportunity to join an early-stage company and to work on exciting, fast-moving projects. They really are at the cutting edge of molecular/synthetic biology and are looking for a Research Assistant Scientist to join their expanding team.Research Assistant Role:You will focus on the delivery of critical research programmes, being involved in the design, execution and reporting of experimental research. This is an opportunity to be part of a world-class team and conduct research with a tangible impact.Responsibilities Include:

  • Working under the daily supervision of a principal scientist in a team of 5 on reprogramming of iPSCs to mature liver, pancreas and related cell types
  • Design and execution of experiments, plus the analysis and the reporting of results.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider R&D team on the development of core technologies and effective organization of research (equipment, reagents, workflow)
  • Executing our ambitious research programmes for the generation of all the human cell types in the dish using our unique reprogramming technology.
  • The delivery of strategic research programmes, in both the design, execution of experiments and reporting of the research results.
    • Research Assistant Profile: You will ideally be a keen team player motivated by a scientific curiosity, combined with scientific diligence and a problem-solving attitude.Essentials:
  • A Bachelors degree in cell biology, molecular biology or similar, plus minimum 1 year of laboratory experience in a rigorous research environment in industry or academic research lab
  • Experience with mammalian tissue culture
  • Experience with basic molecular phenotyping of mammalian cells, including RNA/DNA extraction, RT-qPCR, immunofluorescent staining
    • Desirables:
  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cell culture
  • Knowledge and practical experience with stem cells or progenitors Knowledge and practical experience with liver cells and related functional assays
