Job Description

Purification Development Scientist - 12 Month FTC Cambridge, UKSalary - Competitive salary and company benefits applyAt AstraZeneca, we turn ideas into life changing medicines! Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality!As part of the Purification Process Sciences (PPS) group, this position will support the development and conduct purification activities to support our growing portfolio of recombinant proteins, new molecular formats and viral vectors. Role Responsibilities

  • Design, planning, execution and reporting of laboratory scale biomolecule purification experiments to enable novel purification strategies implementation at large scale production of antibody and Fc fusion molecule
  • Biomolecule analysis - using standard methods including HPLC, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, Capillary Electrophoresis, Spectrophotometer
  • Maintaining a current and accurate laboratory record (lab notebook) of all activities through data management system
  • Authorship of reports and internal documentation
  • General laboratory activities including preparation of buffer and routine maintenance of equipment
  • Experience Essential
  • Understand the principle of biomolecule manufacturing
  • Experience with biologics downstream process development
  • Experience with chromatography systems (AKTAs) at various scales and a good understanding of chromatography techniques, e.g. Affinity/IEX/HIC. Experience with tangential flow filtration
  • Experience with biomolecule analysis - using standard methods including HPLC, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, Capillary Electrophoresis, Spectrophotometer
  • Familiar with data management system such as LIMS
  • Able to demonstrate a track record of presenting data both internally and externally preferably at high quality publications and external scientific meetings
  • Desirable
  • Experience and understanding of application of advanced spectrometry methods for protein analysis
  • Experience and understanding of Continuous Bioprocessing
  • Application of Multifactorial Statistical Design software to the development of Bioprocesses
  • Experience of cell culture, molecular biology and other biochemical assay including western blotting, ELISA, flow cytometry is a plus
  • Behavioural proficiencies
  • Demonstrate significant autonomy in terms of experimental design and execution.
  • Ability to work with multiple projects and serotypes concurrently
  • Hard working, organised, balanced and meticulous with an ability to work well under pressure
  • Adaptable, a great teammate with a conscientious attitude and enthusiasm
  • Participate in group discussions and provide novel solutions to a variety of problems of diverse scope involving basic scientific principles

  • Education
  • At least a BSc in a related biochemistry/bioprocessing field, ideally with further post graduate qualification and/or extensive post graduate experience in a related field
