Job Description

Your New Role:We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join our team in Bedford, on a permanent, full time basis. Within this role, you will be managing the delivery of a portfolio of maintenance and improvement projects varying in size (£100k-£10m)within the Eastern Region. The schemes will be located on motorways and major A roads and cover a variety of asset types including pavement, barrier, structures, drainage and geotechnical. You will be taking schemes through detailed design, pricing and schemeconstruction and closeout. This role plays a pivotal part in supporting the local economy making sure transport links run safely and smoothly.National Highways work with safety and customer experience at their very heart. We are proud of the road network that we manage and the way it connects millions of lives every year.What Youll Be Leading On:

  • Manage the development of designs, project plans, agree key project milestones, scope, acceptable risks and priorities with key stakeholders, ensuring the appropriate governance is in place to achieve successful delivery.
  • Ensure that all projects are in scope and are delivered within agreed parameters for quality, cost and time, ensuring they meet intended outcomes, customer service levels, quality and health and safety standards.
  • Manage the expenditure budgets for all projects in scope, ensuring effective financial practices are in place and adhered to by all project resources.
  • Achieve efficiencies, best practice and continuous improvements by ensuring that programme delivery plans are optimised through effective collaboration between stakeholders, economical sequencing of delivery activities, and optimal management of resources.
  • Ensure all safety process are in place at start of scheme. During scheme construction seek continuous improvement, encourage near miss reporting from all levels of workforce, share lessons learnt and install a culture that everyone goes home at the endof the day safely.
  • Overseeing teams consisting of Assistant Project Managers, graduates and apprentices
  • Establish and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and supply chain, ensuring regular checkpoints take place to build trust, update on progress and address any concerns.
To Be Successful
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of CDM and health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of Highways Construction & Maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Evidence of managing and maintaining agreed project plans and detailed stage plans in conjunction with delivery partners
  • Computer literate - Word / Excel / MS Project etc.
  • Recognised qualification in Engineering and/or Project or Programme Management - (desirable)
